| Throughout its early history, Enniskillen Castle frequently came under attack. It was often captured and damaged but was usually quickly recaptured by the Maguires and rebuilt. During one such rebuilding in 1508, the Maguires may have extended the castle from its original square tower-house to its present rectangular ground plan. |
