| Description: |
A travelling exhibition from Donegal County Museum and County Archives Service to commemorate the 400th anniversary of ‘The Flight of the Earls’ (1607-2007).
This exhibition evolves around the events of late summer 1607 when Rory O’Donnell and Hugh O’Neill – the Earls of Tir Chonaill and Tir Eoghain – left Donegal for Europe with their families, friends and allies. They sought to seek assistance from the King of Spain in their long-running struggle with Queen Elizabeth I of England.
The exhibition focuses on major political events of the period, namely the Elizabethan conquest of Ireland, the departure of the Ulster Earls and the subsequent Plantation of Ulster.
