Recollections of the first radio. |
| |
| Description |
It was in 1933 that we got our first radio. It was a Murphy Set, very good wee set and it was the wonder of all the neighbours even then. They came to hear it and the biggest wonder of all was they stayed til 12 o'clock at night to hear Big Ben striking Twelve. That was the highlight of the ceilidh. Now that time you had to have a wet battery and a dry battery and the wet battery had to be, it would do maybe four weeks and then when it went off you had to take it in to Enniskillen which was fifteen miles away and you had to wait three days maybe to get it.
