They were self-sufficient in the fact that you had your own milk. If you wanted it you had your own butter, you had your own vegetables. There was much more cropping done on the farm. Now, in this part of the world, the most of it was done with spade and shovel y'know? But the population was far more, there was far more people in the country and many many more farmers than there is today. You could have your own pig, you could have your own milk as I said and you could have practically anything you wanted to live on, but you lived without money. It was a hell of a difference, y'know?
