Lady Dorothy Lowry-Corry – “an indefatigable field-worker” talk by Dr Kieran O’Conor, followed by a tour of Castle Coole.
Discover the remarkable story of Dorothy Lowry-Corry (1885-1967), a pioneering female archaeologist and dedicated advocate for the preservation of heritage, particularly in her native Fermanagh.
Born at Castle Coole, the second youngest child of the 4th Earl of Belmore, Dorothy devoted her life to the protection of sites ranging from prehistoric monuments to medieval churches and sculpture.
In this talk, Dr Kieran O’Conor, University of Galway, will examine Lady Dorothy Lowry-Corry’s significant contribution to the study and safeguarding of archaeological heritage in the setting where her story first began at Castle Coole.
The talk will be followed by a tour of Castle Coole house. Tea/coffee refreshments included.
