Visitor Centre
Welcome to our most hospitable castle complex
Visitor Centre
In 2016, Enniskillen Castle was transformed into a world-class visitor experience with a dynamic new partnership of tourism, heritage, and genealogy facilities and services. Major developments included a new state-of-the-art Visitor Centre, providing a welcoming space with a café, shop and top floor with panoramic views across the castle and town. The Visitor Centre also acts as an introductory area and place for discovering key artefacts and collections relating to the history and heritage of Fermanagh.
Our new Visitor Centre was built on the footprint of the former derelict Health Clinic building, constructed within the castle complex in the 1960s. The Clinic had offered dental care, maternity care and child welfare in a centralised space. Back further, the Clinic had been built on the site of the old caretaker’s house, formerly married officers’ quarters, and once a stable block. The history of this part of the site reflects earlier piecemeal development of the castle complex when the historic significance of the site remained hidden.
The 2016 Enniskillen Castle 3.5 million Masterplan to transform the castle complex was a Fermanagh and Omagh District Council initiative made possible with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland and administered by Tourism Northern Ireland. Additional funding was provided by DfC Historic Environment Division and the Friends of Fermanagh County Museum.
